What is an interventional radiologist?
Interventional radiologists are board-certified physicians who specialize in minimally invasive procedures. They use imaging, such as ultrasound, CAT scans, and X-rays, to diagnose and treat conditions in almost every system of the body. Instead of making large incisions like in traditional surgery, interventional radiologists deliver therapies through tiny catheters inside the body, primarily within blood vessels. These procedures offer less risk, less pain, and shorter recovery times than traditional surgical techniques.
Today, many conditions that once required surgery can be treated nonsurgically by interventional radiologists. Interventional radiologists offer the most in-depth knowledge of the least invasive treatments available, coupled with diagnostic and clinical experience across all specialties.
